Dear Friends,

I am pleased to be running in California’s newly drawn 78th Assembly District. As you know, every ten years, after every Census, district lines are changed to make sure each district includes the same number of residents.

I’m pleased to be a candidate to represent many of the same neighborhoods that I have for the past two years in the Assembly – and I’m excited that several new neighborhoods are now in the 78th District, too.

It is a diverse district of vibrant neighborhoods, businesses, organizations, educational institutions and people. San Diego County – and all of California – face many challenges, especially as our economy is slow to recover. I will continue to support our growing biotech and high-tech employment base in the region, cut red tape for small businesses, expand job training and help working families get through this recession. We are moving in the right direction, but we still have many people seeking jobs to support their families.

I believe quality educational opportunities are key to our economic recovery. Employers of all kinds need qualified job candidates, and candidates need the training and education to succeed. I will continue to fight to restore education funding while improving our schools and colleges, and to ensure that all children have access to early childhood education.

We are fortunate to have local military bases and personnel that contribute so much to our economy – and to our security. I am committed to working together with the military community to maximize the benefit to our local economy – and to make sure veterans and those currently serving have access to the services they need.

I am proud of what we accomplished together during my first term in the Assembly and I am eager once again to tackle the challenging issues facing our state. And with you by my side, we’ll make a difference in California and build a brighter future for our Golden State.
