Diagram of Chromosome Structure Online Biology Dictionary
Diagram of Chromosome Structure. A chromosome is a physically discrete portion of the genome, which carries many individual genes. Eukaryotic chromosomes are composed of chromatin, which is a mixture of DNA and protein.
Chromosome
A chromosome is a deoxyribonucleic acid molecule with part or all of the genetic material of an organism. Most eukaryotic chromosomes include packaging proteins which, aided by chaperone proteins, bind to and condense the DNA molecule to prevent it from becoming an unmanageable tangle.
Chromosome segregation
During mitosis chromosome segregation occurs routinely as a step in cell division (see mitosis diagram). As indicated in the mitosis diagram, mitosis is preceded by a round of DNA replication, so that each chromosome forms two copies called chromatids.
Proximal 18q : chromosome18
Proximal 18q Introduction. There are two groups of people with 18q deletions: those with deletions involving the end of the chromosome (known as distal deletions), and those with deletions closer to the centromere (known as proximal deletions).

Tetrasomy 18p : chromosome18
Tetrasomy 18p Recently diagnosed? Visit our FAQ page. Introduction. The goal of this page is to describe the major features of Tetrasomy 18p.
Cell Size and Scale Learn.Genetics
How can an X chromosome be nearly as big as the head of the sperm cell? No, this isn't a mistake. First, there's less DNA in a sperm cell than there is in a non reproductive cell such as a skin cell.

Fig. 15 Detailed diagram of the organization of the beginning of a gene (strand direction descriptors follow the NCBI convention). Note that "positive" and "negative" strand designations are relative to the p arm of the chromosome, while the "sense" strand designation is relative to the orientation of a particular gene.
